About the Research

Interactive simulations have the potential to enhance STEM learning, yet their effectiveness is often limited by reliance on generic, off-the-shelf content that fails to meet diverse learners' needs. While generative AI can enable educators to rapidly author custom simulations, existing approaches require significant technical expertise or complex iterative prompting to align the learning objectives and simulation behavior. We present SimStep, an authoring tool leveraging multi-level abstractions to incrementally specify, validate, and debug AI-generated educational simulations.
